Abstract:

This dataset shows the general land use zones of Pohnpei. The original data layer was created by the Pohnpei State Government. It was modified by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi) (2017) to better match the most recent shoreline and other base layers. The boundaries are not authoritative and may be verified with Pohnpei State Government.

Purpose: To show the general land use zones of Pohnpei.

The dataset is included the Digital Atlas of Micronesia, module Pohnpei, by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi), in collaboration with Water and Environmental Research Institute of the Western Pacific (WERI) University of Guam and partial funding from United States Geological Survey (USGS), under WRRI 104-B Program, project # 2016GU302B.

The original dataset is part of a data collection effort by iREi over many years and from a variety of sources. Many of the original sources are unknown due to incomplete metadata, but mostly include NGOs and state and national government agencies in the FSM. This particular layer was most likely created by the Pohnpei State Government. The dataset was obtained by iREi prior to 2012.

1. Shifted dataset about 13 meters SSW to better match WorldView-3 (WV3) satellite imagery; 2. Cleaned polygons to eliminate topological errors; 3. Added Pohnnpei Forest Reserve polygon; 4. Updated airport zone based on WV3 imagery and adjusted polygons to updated shoreline; 5. Formatted attribute table and added field (name, source, etc).
